Each year The Project organizes medical clinics. Two doctors and two nurses administer medical care and medication and a lab technician administers much-needed tests within the village. This allows people to receive medical care without having to walk long distances or pay for transportation. Often transportation costs are the barrier to medical care.
If patients are referred to the hospital for further treatment or tests and funds allow, we accompany them to the hospital to ensure they receive appropriate care. All expenses for transportation and medical care are provided. If they are referred beyond the local hospital, expenses are also paid if the budget allows. The support is continued when patients require ongoing medical care.
An eye doctor provides vision screenings at each of the medical clinics as well as at Belgrove Primary School. The doctor fits villagers for glasses provided by Lions 49A/B Alaska and makes referrals for those needing further treatment.
Many more people need financial support for follow-up treatment than we have been able to provide. The committee has had to prioritize those with the greatest medical need to support. Your donation will ensure more people receive the care they need.
