Meet teacher Peter Mepukoriii Shakutit.  He teaches 2nd grade at Belgrove Primary, the Lemong’o village school.  His salary is paid by The Lemong’o Project.  

What made you want to be a teacher?

I just take it as a call from God without regret.

Do you feel education is a means for the Maasai that can enhance their quality of life?  If so, in what ways?

Firstly, education improves literacy skills among the Maasai people.  Secondly, education sharpens peoples’ minds.  Thirdly, one of our students graduated last week with a degree in surveying which can lead to more job opportunities and further school.  He can be seen as an example when he comes back to the school to visit and give some students advice on the importance of education and teach children from the same school.
