Carolyn Tague

Carolyn was a special education teacher for thirty-two years. Her sense of adventure brought her to Alaska in 1991. The Lemong'o Project began with Carolyn's lifelong draw to Africa and her dream of helping children there. In the summer of 2005, she visited for the first time to volunteer with a service group. Each year thereafter, she returned to volunteer, and in 2007 her journey led her to the village of Lemong'o. She formed the non-profit organization, The Lemong'o Project, in 2011 to address the educational, medical, health, and economic needs of the village. The beautiful people of Lemong'o have become her African family.

Mary Ann first visited Lemong'o in 2024, where she spent time teaching at Belgrove Primary School. During her stay, she brought books and school supplies and shared her love of music and education, donating more than 40 recorders to students and teachers alike. Inspired by her experience, she remained closely connected to the community and later collaborated with George Amadeus to co-author and publish Nge and the Magical Drums, a Maasai folktale. Mary Ann is honored to serve as vice president of the board and is deeply committed to supporting the mission and ongoing work of The Lemong'o Project.

Bryan is Carolyn’s husband, and he strives to support her in any and all aspects of The Lemong'o Project. He sees the joy and fulfillment Carolyn receives from working with and giving to the people of Lemong'o. He knows that her life would be incomplete without this opportunity to help those that truly need assistance. Bryan’s involvement with the project has been through providing support from the States, but he does plan to visit the village soon.

Nicole visited Lemong'o in 2013 and volunteered in the school during her stay. She worked enthusiastically with the children, sharing her teaching skills and learning from the village teachers as well. The people of Lemong'o warmly welcomed her as one of their own. After visiting the village, Nicole was eager to join The Lemong'o Project. Since 2013, she has shared her time and talents to help the project reach its goals.

Lisa began volunteering with the project in 2014, organizing fundraising events. In 2015 she visited Lemong'o and put her teaching skills to work in the classrooms. Before her visit, Lisa prepared a lesson for each grade level. The lessons were a BIG hit! The students still remember “Teacher Lisa” and the fun activities she did with them. The people of Lemong'o warmly welcomed Lisa to the village and expressed their gratitude for her hard work and love for their children.

Beth is a retired Anchorage School District early childhood educator. Her career spanned 30+ years working with families experiencing homelessness and creating public preschools. Now living in Tucson, Beth enjoys all outdoor activities and the opportunity to support the Lemong'o Project through grant writing. Having lived in Lesotho, Africa, as a Peace Corps volunteer years ago, Beth has a love of Africa and its people. Inspired by Carolyn and previous board members and volunteers, Beth is thrilled to be involved and contributing to such a worthy community. Beth is hoping to go to Lemong'o in the very near future!

Savannah is an engineer by training and received her minor in humanitarian engineering because she has always wanted to use her skills to help others. She also has a passion for helping kids and has mentored dozens through various sports programs. When she learned about The Lemong’o Project, she was immediately inspired by the mission of the project to not only assist the community in becoming self-sustaining but also to nurture children through nutrition, health, and education. Upon meeting the team, she knew that she had to become part of it. Savannah is thrilled to get to help in any way she can and cannot wait to visit Lemong’o someday.
